Season's Greetings... and a look back at my geeky 2013

IT'S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR AGAIN, WHERE WE ALL WISH EACH OTHER THE BEST OF WISHES, A GOOD HEALTH AND MAY ALL YOUR GEEKY DREAMS COME TRUE.

And it is that time where we on the blog-o-sphere tend to look back at our resolutions of the past year, and what we managed, and what failed.

Saint Seiya: Brave Soldiers

There is a term used in Japan to describe the bevy of licensed anime and manga games released every year: "kyara-ge," an abbreviation of "character games." The term carries some negative connotations, since it's generally presumed that the quality of the game itself will be subpar compared to its non-licensed peers. But as kids who grew up with classic series reach adulthood and get jobs developing games themselves, there have been marked improvements in kyara-ge: when you have genuine affection for a licensed franchise, you feel a lot more invested in the quality of the product. It's still exceptionally rare to find kyara-ge on the level of something like Batman: Arkham City, but these games are often at least mildly enjoyable--a category that Saint Seiya: Brave Soldiers falls into nicely.

Saint Seiya: Brave Soldiers is a one-on-one 3D fighting game based on Saint Seiya, a Japanese anime and manga franchise that began in the mid-'80s. Many kids growing up around that time period, especially from France, Italy, and Latin America, have fond memories of Knights of the Zodiac, which had a following comparable to that of The Transformers or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in North America. Previous Saint Seiya games have actually been localized and released in several of these territories--including a Warriors-style PlayStation 3 action game--but this is the first time Namco Bandai games has released a Saint Seiya game in English. From the heavens to the oceans to the underworld, everywhere is a battlefield!

Sweet Sixteen

As I mentioned here, coming to Canada took a couple of months. I can remember being told a departure date and then it would be changed. Once we were closer to that date it would change again. At some point I thought I was never going to leave Mexico. Then one day I was told I would be leaving November 3 and the closer we got to the date I began to realize that this time it was for real. I would be leaving all my friends and family in a couple of days and my adventure would begin.

My mom gave me a little agenda as a going away present. I went to all my friends and favourite teachers and gathered their numbers and addresses so I could call them and send them letters while I was gone. Truth be told, I never called or sent anyone any letters. I do remember saying goodbye to everyone I knew and even saying a few words to my schools. Remember, I was 9 yrs old. The afternoon before I left my entire family gathered together and gave me going away mementos. My grandma and mom both gave me letters telling me how proud they were of me for going away to start a better future and education. They told me they would miss me a lot but they would never forget me. I would always be in their heart. My older cousin, Ariadne, and my little sister drew me a family portrait. It had my entire family is stick people form with their names on top. At the bottom it said "Te amamos" or "We love you." My cousin, Enrique, gave me a card with a drawing of a character from the Knights of the Zodiac, an anime series we used to watch together at our grandparent's house or when I went to sleepover. The rest of my family gave me cards and letters and to this day I still have every single one of them.

My family took me to the airport early morning and we all sat around in the waiting area until I had to go through security to catch my flight. I can remember everyone trying to be happy and not look too sad but eventually it was time to say goodbye and everyone broke down. It was a time filled with tears and lots of them. Everyone single person had their turn at hugging me while telling me how much they would miss me and how they loved me. After all the goodbyes were done my mom handed me to my personal flight attendant who would be escorting me through the entire trip and personally drop me off with my aunt and uncle. I flew first class and had a whole section to myself but I did not enjoy it in the very least. For the first hour or two of the flight from Mexico City to Toronto I cried myself to the point where I had no more tears and slept the rest of the way. In Toronto I had to transfer to another flight that would be taking me to London, Ontario. This entire trip probably takes 6 hours but that day it seemed to last an eternity. I remember getting of the plane and seeing my aunt, uncle and cousin waiting for me through a large window. They waved at me and all I could do was squeeze my teddy bear backpack. Everything was all to real now.

ACF 2022: VIZ announces digital manga updates for November 2013

VIZ MEDIA ANNOUNCES NEW DIGITALMANGA UPDATES FOR NOVEMBER

Feel the true power of the cosmos as Saint Seiya: Brave Soldiers launches next week

Masami Kurumada's Saint Seiya (also known as Knights of the Zodiac) franchise never really caught on in the English speaking world. For whatever reason audiences never flocked to localized versions of the classic manga, and anime series. Despite that setback the series flourished in other parts of the globe leading to spinoff manga, action figures, anime, and video games. The latest in the series is Saint Seiya: Brave Soldiers, a fighting game published by Namco Bandai, and developed by Dimps for the PlayStation 3.

Brave Soldiers breathes life into the original Saint Seiya manga by including new animation from Toei. The game's roster features over 50 characters with anime authentic action in the Galaxian Wars mode. For those interested in a more traditional take on fighting games there's the Chronicle mode. Players can also take on their friends in a five vs five brawl.

Seiya and Pegasus soar! Saint Seiya 2014 CGI feature film to be released in 2014!

Saint Seiya fans are probably jumping out of thier seats now as the classic anime/manga series Saint Siya (Also known as Knights of the Zodiac) is getting a 2014 featured film titiled Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary. It's anticipated for an early summer release and will be in 3D computer animation instead of a 2D anime format. This will be the 6th film based on the manga and will be directed by Keiichi Sato, who worked on projects such as Tiger & Bunny, Wolf's Rain, The SoulTaker, and The Big O.

This film will mark the 25th anniversary of the franchise, which is a pretty damn good accomplshment. Honestly though I'm not the biggest fan of the idea to use 3D animation. Just look at the image above and compare it to this shot from the animation.

FACTS convention picture report

Fourth year in a row I'm going to this anime and comic event in Flanders, and I will not turn around the bush, this has been the BEST ONE ever so far, both from a personal as from an organisational point of view.

The personal part is very simple. At a small dutch anime store, in a shelf literally at floor level, I found one of my Holy Grails, the illustrious volume 10 of the Shonen Jump english manga of Knights of the Zodiac. You don't (if you find them uberhaubt) get them online under 200 USD, due to a print error way back limiting the run of this particular volume.I payed 30 euros today. The vendor even appologized that he had to ask more for that one then the rest due to it being 'rather rare'.Well, learn your classics, you can make more on them then on Naruto or Pokemon matey ;-)

So let's have a look at these things then now don't we.

My (Little) Japanese Side

In two hours and 40 minutes I read 1097 pages from the scanned tankobons of manga (you can find them .) I couldn't stop myself. Kuno would have forbidden it probably screaming this way.

And I think P-Chan will be one of my future self gifts. In case you were asking I'm not an otaku and neither a comics' expert. I used to read Disney comics like Mickey Mouse (involuntarily I've taken after my bro J), Donald Duck, Scrooge McDuck, Minnie and Witch ones.. I read Peanuts for a while.. but this is my first manga. I could read Kodocha or InuYasha next.. Or Death Note, my friend A's watching the anime.
Alright. As I've promised, i am going to do a part 2 of the blog i talked about a few days ago. i have a few stuff to talk about to finish off what i was talking about dealing with the swan manga, and then im going to talk about the comics ive read for this trip.

the swan manga. my only hope of seeing it again would be next year for the trip to canada to that comic store (comics america). also, another thing i should say about that store is that it was a little too cramped, if you guys are reading this. a few things kept getting knocked over with me around. you people need to have more space around. in my statistics, there will be a 60% chance of it still being there because no-one would want to pay money for manga anymore when they can get, and a 40% chance of it not being there anymore because someone's little girl wanted to buy it because there literally aren't any comics out there targeted to such an audience. I am this close to going through the trouble of buying a used copy from amazon, just like i did with Lupin III, and Knights of the Zodiac.

Pegasus

I AM GOING TO WRITE ABOUT PEGASUS TODAY. PEGASUS IS ANOTHER MYTHICAL HORSE I HAVE ALREADY WRITTEN ABOUT THE UNICORN, AND I THINK THAT THE PEGASUS IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND REGAL. SO LETS GET TO IT.... PEGASUS (ANCIENT GREEK:, P GASOS, LATIN PEGASUS) IS ONE OF THE BEST KNOWN MYTHOLOGICAL CREATURES IN GREEK MYTHOLOGY. HE IS A WINGED DIVINE STALLION USUALLY DEPICTED AS PURE WHITE IN COLOR. HE WAS SIRED BY POSEIDON, IN HIS ROLE AS HORSE-GOD, AND FOALED BY THE GORGON MEDUSA. HE WAS THE BROTHER OF CHRYSAOR, BORN AT A SINGLE BIRTHING WHEN HIS MOTHER WAS DECAPITATED BY PERSEUS. GRECO-ROMAN POETS WRITE ABOUT HIS ASCENT TO HEAVEN AFTER HIS BIRTH AND HIS OBEISANCE TO ZEUS,KING OF THE GODS, WHO INSTRUCTED HIM TO BRING LIGHTNING AND THUNDER FROM OLYMPUS. FRIEND OF THE MUSES,PEGASUS IS THE CREATOR OF HIPPOCRENE, THE FOUNTAIN ON MT. HELICON. HE WAS CAPTURED BY THE GREEK HERO BELLEROPHON NEAR THE FOUNTAIN PEIRENE WITH THE HELP OF ATHENA AND POSEIDON. PEGASUS ALLOWS THE HERO TO RIDE HIM TO DEFEAT THE MONSTER, THE CHIMERA, BEFORE REALIZING MANY OTHER EXPLOITS. HIS RIDER, HOWEVER, FALLS OFF HIS BACK TRYING TO REACH MOUNT OLYMPUS. ZEUS TRANSFORMED HIM INTO THE CONSTELLATION PEGASUS AND PLACED HIM UP IN THE SKY. HYPOTHESES HAVE BEEN PROPOSED REGARDING ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH THE MUSES THE GODS ATHENA, POSEIDON, ZEUS, APOLLO, AND THE HERO PERSEUS. THE SYMBOLISM OF PEGASUS VARIES WITH TIME. SYMBOL OF WISDOM AND ESPECIALLY OF FAME FROM THE MIDDLE AGES UNTIL THE RENAISSANCE, HE BECAME ONE SYMBOL OF THE POETRY AND THE CREATOR OF SOURCES IN WHICH THE POETS DRAW INSPIRATION, PARTICULARLY IN THE 19TH CENTURY. PEGASUS IS THE SUBJECT OF A VERY RICH ICONOGRAPHY, ESPECIALLY THROUGH THE ANCIENT GREEK POTTERY AND PAINTINGS AND SCULPTURES OF THE RENAISSANCE. PERSONIFICATION OF THE WATER, SOLAR MYTH, OR SHAMAN MOUNT, CARL JUNG AND HIS FOLLOWERS HAVE SEEN IN PEGASUS A PROFOUND SYMBOLIC ESOTERIC IN RELATION TO THE SPIRITUAL ENERGY THAT ALLOWS TO ACCESS TO THE REALM OF THE GODS ON MOUNT OLYMPUS. IN THE 20TH AND 21ST CENTURY, HE APPEARED IN MOVIES, IN FANTASY, N VIDEO GAMES AND IN ROLE PLAY, WHERE BY EXTENSION. THE TERM "PEGASUS" (PLURAL: "PEGASI") IS OFTEN USED TO REFER TO ANY WINGED HORSE. THE POET HESIOD PRESENTS A FOLK ETYMOLOGY IF THE NAME PEGASUS AS DERIVED FROM P G "SPRING WELL" "THE PEGAI OF OKEANOS, WHERE HE WAS BORN." A PROPOSED ETYMOLOGY OF THE NAME IS LUWIAN PIHASSAS, MEANING "LIGHTNING" AND PIHASSASSI, A LOCAL LUWIAN-HITTIE NAME IS SOUTHERN CILICIA OF A WEATHER GOD REPRESENTED WITH THUNDER AND LIGHTNING. THE PROPONENTS OF THIS ETYMOLOGY ADDUCE PEGASUS 'ROLE, REPORTED AS EARLY AS HESIOD, AS BRINGER OF THUNDERBOLTS TO ZEUS. IT WAS FIRST SUGGESTED IN 1952 AND REMAINS WIDELY ACCEPTED BUT ROBIN LANE FOX (200) HAS CRITICIZED IT AS IMPLAUSIBLE. ACCORDING TO LEGEND, EVERYWHERE THE WINGED HORSE STRUCK HIS HOOF TO THE EARTH, AN INSPIRING SPRING BRUST FORTH. ONE OF THESE SPRINGS WAS UPON THE MUSES' MOUNT HELICON, THE HIPPOCRENE ("HORSE SPRING") OPENED, ANTONINUS LIBERALIS SUGGESTED, AT THE BEHEST OF POSEIDON TO PREVENT THE MOUNTAIN SWELLING WITH RAPTURE AT THE SONG OF THE MUSES; ANOTHER WAS AT TROEZEN. HESIOD RELATES HOW PEGASUS WAS PEACEFULLY DRINKING FROM A SPRING WHEN THE HERO BELLEROPHON CAPTURED HIM. HESIOD ALSO SAYS PEGASUS CARRIED THUNDERBOLTS FOR ZEUS. THERE ARE SEVERAL VERSIONS OF THE BIRTH OF THE WINGED STALLION AND HIS BROTHER CHRYSAOR IN THE FAR DISTANT PLACE AT THE EDGE OF EARTH, HESIOD;S "SPRINGS OF OCEANUS, WHICH ENCIRCLES THE INHABITED EARTH WHERE PERSEUS FOUND MEDUSA: ONE IS THAT THEY SPRANG FROM THE BLOOD ISSUING FROM MEDUSA'S NECK AS PERSEUS WAS BEHEADING HER, SIMILAR TO THE MANNER IN WHICH ATHENA WAS BORN FROM THE HEAD OF ZEUS. IN ANOTHER VERSION, WHEN PERSEUS BEHEADED MEDUSA, THEY WERE BORN OF THE EARTH, FED BY THE GORGON'S BLOOD, PAIN AND SEA FOAM IMPLYING THAT POSEIDON HAD INVOLVEMENT IN THEIR MAKING. THE LAST VERSION BEARS RESEMBLANCE TO THE BIRTH OF APHRODITE, DAUGHTER OF ZEUS. THE WINGED HORSE THAT HAS PROVIDED AN INSTANT RECOGNIZABLE CORPORATES LOGO OR EMBLEM OF INSPIRATION. PEGASUS IN YU-GI-OH! IS AN EVIL MAN WHO WANTS TO STEAL THE EXODYSSIAN PECIES. THE SOUTH AMERICAN COUNTRY OF ECUADOR LAUNCHED ITS FIRST A SATELLITE, NAMED "PEGASO" (PEGAUS IN SPANISH) ON APRIL 26, 2013. PEGASUS SEIVA, THE CENTRAL CHARACTER IN THE ANIME SERIES SAINT SEIVA, (KNIGHTS OF THE ZODIAC) TAKES HIS NAME "PEGASUS" FROM THE PEGASUS BRONZE CLOTH HE USES TO PRODUCE HIS ARMOR. PEGASUS AIRLINES (TURKISH: PEGASUS HAVA TAMAC LA. ) IS A LOW-COST AIRLINE HEADQUARTERS IN THE KURTK Y AREA OF PENDIK, ISTANBUL, TURKEY. PEGASUS IN MY LITTLE PONY ARE PONIES CHARACTERIZED BY THEIR WINGS AND THEIR ABILITY TO FLY, WALK ON CLOUDS, AND CONTROL THE WEATHER. I HOPE THAT YOU ENJOYED THIS POST ON PEGASUS AND IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT PEGASUS THEN YOU CAN GO TO HTTP://EN.WIKIPEDIA.ORG/WIKI/PEGASUS AND IF YOU HAVE ANY REQUEST FOR A POST THEN FEEL FREE TO ASK AND I WILL WRITE A POST FOR YOU. I TAKE ALL REQUEST YOU JUST HAVE TO ASK.

Sup. Since I happen to be alone at my old home this weekend, I decided I want to upload some more pictures from my sketch book. I picked out like the top 10 ones from the sketchbook. Most of them happen to copy an art style of some of my favorite artist.

Just so you guys know, I don't intend to upload any pictures of the Bigger sketch book used for class drawing sessions. because1.) most of them are just rough sketches from trying to copy life objects.2.) too big to scan in a scanner.3.) the best ones are left at the art building. There was a class assignment to bring our 10 best drawings to show to class, and then she wanted to keep them. she told us we could come back and bring them with us some other day, but i never felt like coming back, so...yeah.

these aren't all the drawings, the others happens to be rough sketches, or just felt incomplete.

Combat Suit by H1-5 [Knights of the Old Republic Mods]

Holty12345 comes back to us here at KotOR Files with a modification for the first Knights of the Old Republic game, which basically gives the player a custom skinned combat suit. As the author admits, the reskin of the combat suit is not the best; however the mod was mainly for the author to learn how to script items into the game. You can get the combat suit in game after a conversation with a Twilek dancer (see readme for more details); all in all the scripting is sound, so if you fancy a rath - Full Post
