However the lost canvas - the myth of hades, is a spin off / alternative work written by Shiori Teshirogi.

Saint seiya or commonly known as the knights of the zodiac. Are based around the reincarnation of the goddess Athena and her 88 saints. And her arch nemesis Hades and his 108 spectres, his counter parts to Athena' saints. The saints are broken down by the cloth that they wear and the level of their cosmos (power level). The cloths are: gold, silver and bronze. With gold being the highest and they represent the zodiac signs. With the spectres, they don't really have a hierarchy structure, but they are based on the star that they represent. For example; heavenly star spectre will be a higher rank than earthly star (this based on assumption of course).

The lost canvas - the myth of hades is set in the 18th century and it centres around Tenma and his friends Alone and Sasha. With Tenma being the reincarnation of the bronze saint Pegasus. Not to complicate anything, we have Sasha being the reincarnation of the goddess Athena. And just to make things even worse for Tenma. His best friend and sister of Sasha, Alone being the reincarnation of Hades. Sasha was taken to the sanctuary, to be more precise the saints base. And Tenma being recruited by Libra Dohko in to becoming a saint. This in turn led to Alone being very lonely and very much (no pun intended) alone. These turn of events set him to the path of being Hades.
Full Post
Animonohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09205122367223626862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1695018490524716352.post-20640514510353260192013-12-22T12:28:00.001-08:002013-12-22T12:28:19.625-08:00Season's Greetings... and a look back at my geeky 2013IT'S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR AGAIN, WHERE WE ALL WISH EACH OTHER THE BEST OF WISHES, A GOOD HEALTH AND MAY ALL YOUR GEEKY DREAMS COME TRUE.

And it is that time where we on the blog-o-sphere tend to look back at our resolutions of the past year, and what we managed, and what failed.

I had three resolutions for the year, and failed on two accounts... not the best of averages but heck.

The first one that I failed, and mainly due to my own fault, is to ACHIEVE LEVEL 30 IN PLANESWALKER POINTS.For some reason from half of august onwards, I just stopped playing.Part due to real life with the quit job, back to school reason, partly because I couldn't attend GP Antwerp... but I had 4 months to score those final 135 points, and I still lack them.No excuse, just my own pure slackingness.

The second Theros block set is about to arrive, and I still haven't held a single card from the first set... it's that bad yes.

The second one is an even more epic failure: painting.I fell silent on this part from, well, the whole year basically, had a resurgence around october painting 75 models in a month, and then fell silent again only doing two model kits.In the end I scored just over half, but needless to say this has been another disaster on resolution level.

But bring out the cheerleaders, I did manage one successfull resolution, to get to level 15 in the Playstation Network (heck, I'm almost halfway to 19 by now).

This is in large thanks to the playstation challenge, which is now in it's final 10 days, and the thrill of epically trashing Andy.Which is about to happen as I'm still over 10k in the lead, considering a level means you have to platinum about 7 games on average, lots of hours have been spend and a heap of planning went into it.

BUT LET'S ALSO HAVE A LOOK BACK AT SOME OTHER GEEKY THINGS OF THE PAST YEAR.

BEST THING WATCHED?Pacific Rim.Yes, I'm a trekkie, but I didn't think the recent movie that good.It was a great scifi flick, but it didn't "feel" Star Trek to me.Same goes for Saint Seiya Omega. Many would have expected that to be my number one to have watched the past year, but it actually became only good to great in the second part of the second season... leaving about 1.5 seasons to be better erased from the mind.

So the trophy for me goes to Del Toro's epic movie of giant robots battling it out with giant beasts.Which Otaku would not like that.

GAMING: oddly, here has to go a non trophy supported game.Saint Seiya Omega, Ultimate Cosmo on the PSP takes this years place as most 'rewarding' game. Why?Well, because I finished it inside out, unlocking all characters, movies, pictures, big bang attacks and the likes... on a fully Japanese languaged game (it's import, never released outside the Asia region btw) so it all had to be figured out from a to z.

MAGIC THE GATHERING: well, without a doubt the Top 8 posting in the Gamesday of Gatecrash, for an amateur level player like me about the best result of the year, it could have been top 4 even but I flunked it myself in the quarter finals. We all learn someway, preferably the hard version ;-)

COLLECTING: no doubt the illustrious volume 10 of Knights of the Zodiac for 30 euros instead of the 200 - 300 they go for on eBay.No matter how much cool stuff I gathered this year, this is the winner due to rarity and price.

READING: some people think the story is to twisty or spun out.I just love it, 'nuff said...

BRICKING: 2013 saw me fully back playing with LEGO's, with the whole Historica things and the likes, but the absolute winner for me is a tie actually, due to fond memories on both.

First there is the Big Ben set, which I brought back from London on our valentine trip with the girlfriend, and secondly there is the Shakespeare minifig which I used to teach the munchkin about sharing, at times give and don't be to egoistically and only 'want'.

That is about it for the 2013 look backs, tomorrow I'm going to plunge into 2014 with the new resolutions planning, things to get, to do... we all know those tricks and trades on these blogs.

SO THE ONLY THING THAT IS LEFT TO SAY FOR NOW: HAVE A NICE HOLIDAYS AND REMEMBER, WEDNESDAY IT'S ALL ABOUT CAPALDI!!!!!
Full Post
Animonohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09205122367223626862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1695018490524716352.post-13957772603943035272013-12-22T05:42:00.001-08:002013-12-22T05:42:38.310-08:00Saint Seiya: Brave SoldiersThere is a term used in Japan to describe the bevy of licensed anime and manga games released every year: "kyara-ge," an abbreviation of "character games." The term carries some negative connotations, since it's generally presumed that the quality of the game itself will be subpar compared to its non-licensed peers. But as kids who grew up with classic series reach adulthood and get jobs developing games themselves, there have been marked improvements in kyara-ge: when you have genuine affection for a licensed franchise, you feel a lot more invested in the quality of the product. It's still exceptionally rare to find kyara-ge on the level of something like Batman: Arkham City, but these games are often at least mildly enjoyable--a category that Saint Seiya: Brave Soldiers falls into nicely.

Saint Seiya: Brave Soldiers is a one-on-one 3D fighting game based on Saint Seiya, a Japanese anime and manga franchise that began in the mid-'80s. Many kids growing up around that time period, especially from France, Italy, and Latin America, have fond memories of Knights of the Zodiac, which had a following comparable to that of The Transformers or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in North America. Previous Saint Seiya games have actually been localized and released in several of these territories--including a Warriors-style PlayStation 3 action game--but this is the first time Namco Bandai games has released a Saint Seiya game in English. From the heavens to the oceans to the underworld, everywhere is a battlefield!

Brave Soldiers developer Dimps is no stranger to anime-themed fighting games, having also worked on numerous Dragonball Z games. It knows well what fans expect out of this sort of game: true-to-the-source visuals, a story mode, online and offline versus, and a whole mess of unlockable characters, collectibles, and extras. Brave Soldiers delivers on all these fronts: there's a very lengthy story mode that covers multiple arcs of the anime/manga plot, a gigantic roster of characters (over 50, with up to 15 variations for each), character variants to use, beneficial items to customize your fighters with, and a massive gallery filled with art, music, and a staggering number of images and info about Japanese Saint Seiya toys and collectible cards. If you want to unlock everything the game has to offer, Brave Soldiers is going to keep you busy for quite some time. However, you're going to have to actually want to unlock everything, which entails either being a preexisting Saint Seiya fan, becoming a fan through playing the game, or enjoying the gameplay enough to want to play over and over again. This is where problems start to arise.

The biggest issue is that Brave Soldiers' fighting engine is noticeably shallow. Every character has strong and weak attacks that can be chained together for basic combos, a basic jump/dash maneuver, and throws. Stronger strikes, special attacks, and homing maneuvers can be performed at the cost of your cosmo meter, which builds up on landing and receiving attacks but can also be charged up manually. A hugely damaging big bang attack can be executed using three full cosmo bars, resulting in an impressively animated attack sequence that expertly showcases the fantastical, melodramatic fighting attacks of the source material. Another gauge, the seventh sense meter, builds up over time and can be triggered when full, giving the character that triggers it a power boost. Combat is pretty easy to get the hang of, but there isn't much in the way of depth: don't expect many advanced combos or strategies here. It's fun to assault foes with special skills and big bang attacks, but the luster wears off as time rolls on. Everything in the world of Seiya is pretty, especially the heroes.

And time does roll on, especially if you're going through the game's story mode. The story covers three arcs of the original story (Sanctuary, Poseidon, and Hades), and takes many hours to complete (more if you aim to fulfill every fight's optional objectives). Don't expect things to make much sense unless you're already familiar with the franchise, because a good chunk of the story is skipped over to drop the heroes smack-dab in the midst of the Sanctuary arc's temple fights. I had a passing knowledge of Saint Seiya, but I required someone who was a longtime series fan to watch me play through parts of the story mode and explain elements that were omitted or glossed over before things even began to make sense.

The presentation doesn't do much to help, either: dialogue between characters is presented with still heads above dialogue boxes, and rather than rendering the more dramatic twists and turns of these epic fights with cinematics (or having you play them), the game simply presents them as touched-up screenshots lifted from the original anime series. The voice-over is in Japanese with English text, and the translation is lacking, with some odd text display choices (not fitting all of a character's spoken dialogue into a single box, for example) and stilted, awkward exchanges that fail to capture the excitement of a bunch of hyper-powered, extremely pretty armored anime men beating the ever-loving crap out of each other. If you don't know much about Saint Seiya, the story mode won't make you a fan, and if you do, you might still be disappointed in some of the ways it's presented.

The CPU fights are also a slog. On the standard difficulty, the computer is downright brain-dead, falling for simple tricks and repeated attacks, all while choreographing special attacks in such a way that makes them incredibly easy to dodge. Battles typically devolve into using the "dodge behind foe" skill when taking damage to interrupt foes and start your own combos, and then running away, charging up, and spamming super skills until somebody tries to get in close and the whole process repeats again There are some fun dialogue exchanges between the fighters during battle, but it's hard to read the subtitles in the midst of a fight. Even worse is that, for story reasons, some fights have to be repeated multiple times before chapters are cleared. Since all of the interesting fight elements occur in text outside of the fights, the CPU combat feels all the more unexciting. Battles are dynamic, but they aren't terribly cerebral.

Fights against human foes are considerably more fun, simplistic as they are. You can use characters and variants you've unlocked through story mode, as well as customize your characters with status-augmenting orbs you can purchase with currency earned in-game. Online play supports both player and ranked matches, and features fully functional lobbies for the latter. The game features a staggering number of character and costume choices, many of which are unlocked in-game, though there is plenty of downloadable content for devoted Saint Seiya fans to download and add to their collections.

There's no denying that Saint Seiya has had more effort put into it than a run-of-the-mill licensed anime game. It expertly captures the look and feel of the '80s anime, and gives fans the means to feel like they are in control of a hyper-powered character launching all manner of crazy attacks. And once you've got a fair number of characters unlocked, you can have simplistic fun going up against other players. But with its limited depth, Brave Soldiers can't hold its own against more technical fighters on the market, and the tedium and lackluster presentation of the story mode won't give anyone who's not already a fan of the series much of a reason to become one. But if you were one of those kids who grew up with this series--or perhaps discovered it many years later when the English editions finally began rolling out in the early aughts--then you'll find a lot of nice fan service to enjoy here.
Full Post
Animonohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09205122367223626862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1695018490524716352.post-36175176745425258622013-11-26T02:19:00.001-08:002013-11-26T02:19:37.882-08:00Sweet SixteenAs I mentioned here, coming to Canada took a couple of months. I can remember being told a departure date and then it would be changed. Once we were closer to that date it would change again. At some point I thought I was never going to leave Mexico. Then one day I was told I would be leaving November 3 and the closer we got to the date I began to realize that this time it was for real. I would be leaving all my friends and family in a couple of days and my adventure would begin.

My mom gave me a little agenda as a going away present. I went to all my friends and favourite teachers and gathered their numbers and addresses so I could call them and send them letters while I was gone. Truth be told, I never called or sent anyone any letters. I do remember saying goodbye to everyone I knew and even saying a few words to my schools. Remember, I was 9 yrs old. The afternoon before I left my entire family gathered together and gave me going away mementos. My grandma and mom both gave me letters telling me how proud they were of me for going away to start a better future and education. They told me they would miss me a lot but they would never forget me. I would always be in their heart. My older cousin, Ariadne, and my little sister drew me a family portrait. It had my entire family is stick people form with their names on top. At the bottom it said "Te amamos" or "We love you." My cousin, Enrique, gave me a card with a drawing of a character from the Knights of the Zodiac, an anime series we used to watch together at our grandparent's house or when I went to sleepover. The rest of my family gave me cards and letters and to this day I still have every single one of them.

My family took me to the airport early morning and we all sat around in the waiting area until I had to go through security to catch my flight. I can remember everyone trying to be happy and not look too sad but eventually it was time to say goodbye and everyone broke down. It was a time filled with tears and lots of them. Everyone single person had their turn at hugging me while telling me how much they would miss me and how they loved me. After all the goodbyes were done my mom handed me to my personal flight attendant who would be escorting me through the entire trip and personally drop me off with my aunt and uncle. I flew first class and had a whole section to myself but I did not enjoy it in the very least. For the first hour or two of the flight from Mexico City to Toronto I cried myself to the point where I had no more tears and slept the rest of the way. In Toronto I had to transfer to another flight that would be taking me to London, Ontario. This entire trip probably takes 6 hours but that day it seemed to last an eternity. I remember getting of the plane and seeing my aunt, uncle and cousin waiting for me through a large window. They waved at me and all I could do was squeeze my teddy bear backpack. Everything was all to real now.

A post of my first few months in Canada to follow.
Full Post
Animonohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09205122367223626862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1695018490524716352.post-12124768715945972352013-11-26T01:38:00.001-08:002013-11-26T01:38:55.696-08:00ACF 2022: VIZ announces digital manga updates for November 2013GIMMICK! For whatever reason audiences never flocked to localized versions of the classic manga, and anime series. Despite that setback the series flourished in other parts of the globe leading to spinoff manga, action figures, anime, and video games. The latest in the series is Saint Seiya: Brave Soldiers, a fighting game published by Namco Bandai, and developed by Dimps for the PlayStation 3.

Brave Soldiers breathes life into the original Saint Seiya manga by including new animation from Toei. The game's roster features over 50 characters with anime authentic action in the Galaxian Wars mode. For those interested in a more traditional take on fighting games there's the Chronicle mode. Players can also take on their friends in a five vs five brawl.

Saint Seiya: Brave Soldiers will launch on November 26th in the United States and Canada. While other regions will receive a retail release of the game, it is a PlayStation Network exclusive in the United States and Canada. This will be the first time a Saint Seiya game is released in those markets. No pricing details were shared. The game will only feature Japanese audio.
Full Post
Animonohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09205122367223626862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1695018490524716352.post-19515238955504150562013-11-01T09:40:00.001-07:002013-11-01T09:40:28.821-07:00Seiya and Pegasus soar! Saint Seiya 2014 CGI feature film to be released in 2014!Saint Seiya fans are probably jumping out of thier seats now as the classic anime/manga series Saint Siya (Also known as Knights of the Zodiac) is getting a 2014 featured film titiled Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary. It's anticipated for an early summer release and will be in 3D computer animation instead of a 2D anime format. This will be the 6th film based on the manga and will be directed by Keiichi Sato, who worked on projects such as Tiger & Bunny, Wolf's Rain, The SoulTaker, and The Big O.

This film will mark the 25th anniversary of the franchise, which is a pretty damn good accomplshment. Honestly though I'm not the biggest fan of the idea to use 3D animation. Just look at the image above and compare it to this shot from the animation.

Totally seems differed/possibly unreconizable to me. Now information anf details on the plot are vague so I don't know if the movie is featuring a brand new plot or if it is using the original story but seeing as though we won't see this film for another year, it's safe to say we shoudln't get to much infromation to soon.

That's all for now!
<a time: some Saint Seiya mangasWELL, I FINISHED THE FIRST THREE OF THE MOUNTAIN OF SAINT SEIYA MANGA'S I BROUGHT BACK FROM FACTS LAST SATURDAY, AN INTRESTING MIX SPANNING VARIOUS SERIES.

Knights of the Zodiac volume 10:

The infamous 'vol 10' handles the battle of the Virgo house between Phoenix Ikki and Shaka, Gold Saint of Virgo. Now, I don't really like Shaka in the earlier parts of the manga, compared to the anime he has a sort of evillish streak, instead of his divine posture from the anime. He also fights standing up instead of the lotus position in the series, and it all just seems far less 'on a different level' then it was in the animated duel.

Furthermore, the saints proceed through the Libra house, freeing Hyoga with the help of the gold cloths weapons, from Camus's Ice Coffin, and the battle with Milo of Scorpio is about to begin in this book.

Next Dimension: Le Myth D'Hades 6:

The most recent (translated) volume of Kurumada's work (I wonder if it'll ever go in animation), Shun and Tenma face Kaiser, gold Saint of Leo, with his giant guardian companion, the Lion Goldy.Like in recent series, he has a noble warriors heart, and has stopped Sukiyo. He defeats Shun and Tenma, but then Deathtoll of Cancer arrives with a bunch of spectres that used his Underworld Portals to get to Sanctuary.Kaiser defeats them swiftly, and it turns out that Deathtoll didn't defect, but new the Leo warrior was more suited to fighting them then he himself. He proceeds by telling Kaiser he shouldn't follow Sukiyo, as he is like him a noble warrior and not the enemy...

The Lost Canvas Chronicles 1:

I didn't knew this series, thinking at first it was just a best off, but as I could have a physical look at them, they aren't.They are a series, now released to volume 3, of side stories each time featuring one of Sasha's Gold Saints. The great thing I always though about TLC where that they where all 12 loyal and focussed, no treacheries and all going on.

Volume 1 handles about Albafica, the gold saint of Pisces. He is send to an island that seems to have a strong curing medecine, only to discover it is the younger brother of his former master that runs it, and he has sold his soul to Hades to be able to save his young apprentice.
<a href='http://blogfog.aws.af.cm/ad/site.php?u=eNoVxFEKgDAIANATObeCoG5jJZsw50h%2Fun30Pl6LmAdimPrVeNvT2a36tEiXKS65rFgyPky3jAohyuD2RzICnOUlUBqVPLXQ%2FgFQ3xwm' convention picture reportFourth year in a row I'm going to this anime and comic event in Flanders, and I will not turn around the bush, this has been the BEST ONE ever so far, both from a personal as from an organisational point of view.

The personal part is very simple. At a small dutch anime store, in a shelf literally at floor level, I found one of my Holy Grails, the illustrious volume 10 of the Shonen Jump english manga of Knights of the Zodiac. You don't (if you find them uberhaubt) get them online under 200 USD, due to a print error way back limiting the run of this particular volume.I payed 30 euros today. The vendor even appologized that he had to ask more for that one then the rest due to it being 'rather rare'.Well, learn your classics, you can make more on them then on Naruto or Pokemon matey ;-)

Organisational the event was a big step forward from last year, as they now had the humongous Hall 1 for the traders and videogames, and a second hall, number 5, for clubs. This meant that even though I al pretty sure the 50k visitors mark has been broken, you actually had SPACE between hallways to have a look around.

They still had to do the hallway and a stairs to enter...

I almost didn't go, being in fever last evening, but I don't regret it.Nor do I regret buying a ticket in advance.I went later (around 12.30 I arrived) and still there was a HUGE que for non ticket holders.I spend the whole 17 seconds que'ing (no offense to Salute, but this is what quebusting is all about).

For me it was a great edition, with Saint Seiya Omega and The Lost Canvas clearly having their impact.Compared to previous years, there was a lot more material on sale, though also slightly more expensive.Win some, lose some I'd say, but I almost bought that artwork where it not for it costing 189 euros...

There was even a Saint Seiya modelmakers club, Ma Deesse, I think I almost orgasmed on the spot ;-), if it weren't in France, they would have a new member...

So yes, it was a great event, here is some more eye candy

Archonia was near the entrance this year, so when I entered I had the desillusion I wouldn't be hauling bog boxes on the event, as I could collect my box of books at the end.It was not to be - see my loot at the end why...

I was really tempted by this one

Thundercats, Thundercats, THUNDERCATS HOOOOOOOOOO KAMEEEHAAAMEEEEHAAAAAA The Bugman Al Blacks, cosplaying blood bowl Flying robots where even present

You could also follow a course to learn and draw manga (mental note, I forgot to get the Anime Bamboo Drawing Pad - dooh!)

Little Japan was a themed part of the hall where all kinds of typical Japanese things could be tried, even martial arts, or tree trimming for the softer of heart

You could rent these cars with driver, for things like weddings.Chu, forget that 69 Mustang, I want Bumblebee!!!!

Ronin Warriors Myth Cloths. My walllet still aches Sexiest Pikachu around, other usually just had those jumpsuits.I also heard one girl telling another she could make a costume 'like thing' and it had only cost her about 15 euros in facial paint, that way she saved the 2 euros on a ticket to come dressed up...

Multiplayer PS3 Diablo

And finally my loot:I didn't find Aiolios, so I'm ordering him online this week, but did find a v2 Shiryu on the cheap, a very cheap Milo model kit (have some of those at home, it's basically the old edition models in plastic and need of paint), The Lost Canvas anthology volumes (side stories about the gold saints), the new Myth of Hades book and 8 Episode G's I had pre-ordered at Archonia.

If Omega keeps doing what it does for the franchise as I saw today, I'm putting aside 75 euros a month in a locked account until the next FACTS... and will need a truck to get it all home...

And that big white box?A small gift for the GF.It is only about 12 cm tall elven figure, but it was packed in a huge box which I had to haul around all day.Even not there, she still can turn me in a carriage mule hehehe
<a orgasm, as it has truly been a highlight on collection and television levels.

Let`s start with this:Lionet Soma by Banpresto

When I did my Saint Countdown a few weeks ago, when I reached number 6, Soma of Omega, I mentioned he wasn't released as a Myth Cloth (due to the nature of the Clothstones, the season 2 models with 'true' armours are in the process now of starting to be released) but only as a statuette.Mine arrived past friday, the dual set with Pegasus Koga.

I found it in Japan, for 38 USD and FREE shipping, so that knocked me only back a measly 25 euros, for two mint models who only had a small dent in one of the boxes at the top, barely noticeable.I am one happy camper.

Even though PVC models aren`t exactly the same as having Myth cloths on display, it does look mightily fine in my second cabinet now as both Bronzes stand side by side.

Talking Omega, episode 73 must have been one of the best in the whole series for old schoolers like me.Called `Awakening of Two Cloths`, it features on the one hand Subaru convincing his new Equuleus cloth that he won`t die but become a god (and Koga and Eden noticing something familiar about his immense darkness cosmo, is he Abzu reincarnated as many suspect on fan fora?).

The second cloth is that of... Athena herself. She has taken up the gauntlet of war, and together with the remaining gold saints Kiki of Aries, Harbinger of Taurus and Futo of Virgo has entered the battle at Pallasvelda, the Gold Saints whiping out whole blocks of Pallasite soldiers in the blink of an eye.The battle is truly gearing up.

We also see the Legendary Saints finally at work, but the biggest suprise was in the last seconds of the episode.

Sho, Daichi and Ushio, the original three Steel Saints from the Silver Saint arc of the classic series, enter the battlefield as well again!!!!!Sho`s closing line of the episode, when told by the professor he would never have expected to have to send them back into the fray, are telling for any fan of my generation.

"Back to the battlefield... oh, the nostalgia"

WHAT HAVE I BEEN TAPPING?

Not Magic, see my Tapped Out post from the past week.I did score, to keep in mind the orgasmic Saint Seiya week, two fresh promo cards!

The first is the prerelease buy a box (you know, that complicated construction japanese use which I explained the previous episode) called 'Arrival of the Star Player' (lost in translation anyone...)

The second is from the hard to find Knights of the Zodiac english series, this one came with volume one of the censored and edited US version of the anime.Fat chance I`ll veer watch the DVD, but promo card #15, Seiya in Sagittarius Cloth, is now sitting in my binder for a 5 euro incl shipping deal for the still packaged DVD from the States.

I`m one happy Shonen! That list I found which detailed what items contained which promo cards is paying off, as I got two new ones now in a rather quick succession.

WHAT HAVE I BEEN GAMING?

Well, of course there was the rather unexpected platinum I scored yesterday, but apart from that one, i also pushed a game to 100% during the week, namely JETPACK JOYRIDE FOR THE PS VITA.One of those ported smartphone games, it is available on both PS3 and Vita, but these kind of games tend to lend themselves better for the small handheld then to play them on the large TV screen.

And been enjoying myself with my favorite PS3 game, even though it has been platinumed ages ago...

WHAT HAVE I BEEN WATCHING?

First off, I finished watching the entire 12 episodes + OVA series of BUSHOU SHINKI.This series handles about small female toy `robots` called Shinki's that battle and serve their owners, called Masters (both of the male and female variety). The tournament itself is for the latter episodes, but the shinki`s themselves have a couple of rather funny adventures.Think toy story but then for otaku...It is an enjoyable series, not to high standing but good for a few hours of humouress entertainment and put a grinny smile on your face.

I also watched the new DRAGONBALL Z MOVIE, BATTLE OF GODS.Now, Dragonball is a fighter series with a serious slapstick angle, but in this film, which `feels` like a pilot for a new series, it is to over the top for the liking. You have Vegeta dancing and singing to announce a bingo contest on Bulma`s birthday party, and Son Goku looses from the God of Destruction, Lord Bills, but as he put on such a resistance and became a Super Saiyan God (chosen color of hair for this is red this time), Earth is spared. And then Bills go back to his home to try out sushi and wasabi...

The animation is far better then the classic series which, even with the BluRay release of last year, really shows it`s age, the story however was just plain `bleugh`.

Topping it all off was the Grand Prix of Korea just this morning.Another one man show from Vettel, and the rest really seem to have given up and focus on the next season with all the technical overhauls, the title can be Seb`s next week in Japan.Behind him though it was a highly enjoyable race (poor Webber), and man of the race was without doubt Nico Hulkenberg in his Sauber. He finished 4th after battling a whole GP with the Ferrari of Alonso, the McLaren of Button and both Mercedes cars, and actually managed to fend off all attacks on a circuit which is rather easy to overtake on with it`s wide 1 kilometre straight!

As you can see, a week with a lot that has been done, bar all this I have also been sorting and listing almost 2k of Magic Cards, managed to orden out 1 measly shelf and have a look at my lessons material for the exam in two weeks.

This is mainly though due to the better half being on a family weekend, not that I have anything against the family, but I just don`t have the willpower to go and sit in a house for a whole weekend with a few dozen people.

I might be getting a bit more social, both forced and unforced, thanks to the relationship, deep down I`m still a Hikokomori (on the rebound)....
Full Post
Animonohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09205122367223626862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1695018490524716352.post-38050615541908950512013-09-15T03:08:00.001-07:002013-09-15T03:08:54.560-07:00Narrowing Focus part 2: What am I doing this for?SO A MIDWEEK OF STUDYING, NOT GAMING AND SORTING THROUGH HEAPS OF BOXES AND PACKING UP HAS PASSED NOW SINCE THE INTITIAL POST, AND PEOPLE, MOSTLY THROUGH FACEBOOK, HAVE ASKED ME JUST WHY AM I DOING THIS AND WHAT AM I PARTING WITH.

So let's have a look at these things then now don't we.

The why, as said in the first post, is mostly a monetary and space related issue.Combined with a general 'loss of intrest', which according to My Nemesis is a natural cycle of how my brain works, but this time it is of a different kind.

I've like totally lost any intrest in most of my solo projects, and bar my Saint Seiya collection, barely been looking at the others neither. It is a sequence of things that has actually been leading to this, and those are chronologically roughly this:

* More or less moved in together

* Got a pocket sized resident on top with that

* Quit my job to go back studying, cutting severly in my budget, but this was foreseen

* Watched the full first season of Collection Intervention from SyFy channel

* Needed to find a communal activity woth the girlfriend

* Read this book:

I even lost my maniacal intrest in PS3'ing, preferring to spend time with the communal thingy, and my Magic tournament attendance is hitting rock bottom at the moment.Part of this is that my WMCQ points needed are as good as certain already for the comming year, and that the two most intresting GPs in 2014 come at a very bad timing.

Valentine weekend has Paris, but it is Legacy, a format I don't even want to invest in, and the Utrecht one is together with the GFs birthday.

That combination has drained my motivation to try and attend 2 - 3 events each fortnight, as it has no use to try and bash together a Byes, as I won't attend those anyways.

And the odd things is, I don't even feel bad about it at all...

I even dropped a lead on some figures I don't have in preference of spending it on the GF...

I'm definitly changing in my mindset of a 34 years old bachelor towards a 35 years old serious relationship partner...

Yet, I don't want you to shoot me...

Off all the things from my geekiness, it's really only the Saints that keep catching my intrest, and this for almost 3 decades now.

But this brings us back to the two main points; space and money.

My oddjob hobbies require a LOT of closet space, and truth to be told, my Saints are starting to burst out of their cabinets, so some other things HAVE to go.There is only so much closets and shelves you can fit in a 5 by 3 man cave aka room over at my own place.Taking into account that sooner rather then later, we will be getting married and move to a house, I prefer not to have the need of a huge room to store everything, instead being able to settle in with a small room that can house like two or three cabinets and bookcase.

The other thing is money. As long as I'm studying, I won't be able to spend fortunes on a monthly budget for the collections. This means I am going to need to trade away my stuff in order to get some for my own collection.

And if I can choose between a small cardboard playing card booster box of the newest set, or a fresh Saint for my own collection, that is a deadeye nobrainer choise.I'll get the Saint everytime.

So this means I have now really begun listing all my non Saint stuff (and double japanese cards to fund getting the missing ones) ON THAT WELL KNOWN , with the solemn goal of in the first place trying to fund these Myth cloths, the older and harder to find series now for decent prices.

Bud of Alcor, the 'mystery God Warrior' of the Asgard Series. You don't find him on eBay under the 200 euros.

Athena classic edition, Saori tends to go for around 100 euros

The missing two classic Saints for my Gold Saints series.Aiolios hovers around 60 euros, Aldebaran around 75.I hope to find at least one of them at FACTS next month.

But apart from that, there are some more things I need to complete parts of my collection, and they are expensive.

The most illustrious and hardest to track down is this bottlecap Shaina with Kiki, left front row on this picture. She is actually so rare, that she hasn't popped up on ebay for the past 3 years... so I don't want to know how much she will be going for when she does.

And then there is the illustrious volume 10 of the english manga. For some reason beyond my knowledge (failed print run?Distribution issues back then?) this particular one never goes online under the 200 USD, while all other volumes seem to hover around 15 USD.And guess which one is the only manga I'm missing of all the french and english translated ones...

Finally there are the Promo cards for Knights of the Zodiac, which came with certain toy series and dvd series in the States 12 years ago.LUCKILY I've found a list on the net (in italian, so luckily I can read and understand it more or less) that states which card came with which item. Now it is only a matter of actually finding those items, but meh, it's a start to get the remaining promo cards of that cardseries, as I have only 2 (but am following a lead for a Black Pegasus action figure with the card, in the original packaging still, somewhere in the Genova region in Italy).

I guess that rounds it out a little about the who and why of the changes going through my brainpan, so feel free to click the link in the text above, and sponsor my or our hobbies ;-) *end shameless sales plug*.
Full Post
Animonohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09205122367223626862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1695018490524716352.post-10288917073729297442013-09-05T04:23:00.001-07:002013-09-05T04:23:35.696-07:00Saint SeiyaASSOCIATED NAMES

NEXT

Saint Seiya - I couldn't stop myself. Kuno would have forbidden it probably screaming this way.

And I think P-Chan will be one of my future self gifts. In case you were asking I'm not an otaku and neither a comics' expert. I used to read Disney comics like Mickey Mouse (involuntarily I've taken after my bro J), Donald Duck, Scrooge McDuck, Minnie and Witch ones.. I read Peanuts for a while.. but this is my first manga. I could read Kodocha or InuYasha next.. Or Death Note, my friend A's watching the anime.

Sana from Kodocha

I'm not really informed about manga and anime, but surely I know best these last ones. I watched so many Japanese cartoons: Lady Oscar, Pokemon, Heidi, Tokyo Mew Mew (got Lori's doll), Kodocha, Holli and Benji, Star of the Sein, Tomorrow's Nadja, Cat's Eye, Knights of the Zodiac, Detective Conan, The Three Musketeers, Card Captor Sakura (got her doll), Lupin III, Doraemon (got the figures), Magical Angel Creamy Mami, Love Me Knight, Good Morning! Spank, Hamtaro (got figures of them all and a big Hamtaro), Dr Slump, Attack No.1, Attacker You!, Sailor Moon, Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch, Romeo X Juliet,.. even some episodes from Dragon Ball, One Piece and Naruto.

I am deeply in love with Miyazaki's Spirited Away. Probably the best cartoon I've ever seen. Unluckily I haven't seen Howl's Moving Castle, and neither Totoro, Porco Rosso or any of his other works. I'll fix this. When I finish Ranma.. and the books I have to read.. and the tv series' seasons. Between the 7403840328 thousand movies I still have to watch (neither counting musicals.)

I think anime are the most Japanese side of my life :) Together with Super Mario, Donkey Kong and Sonic.

This morning I realized I had copied the draft and not the definitive version of this post. Fixed now. As I've promised, i am going to do a part 2 of the blog i talked about a few days ago. i have a few stuff to talk about to finish off what i was talking about dealing with the swan manga, and then im going to talk about the comics ive read for this trip.

the swan manga. my only hope of seeing it again would be next year for the trip to canada to that comic store (comics america). also, another thing i should say about that store is that it was a little too cramped, if you guys are reading this. a few things kept getting knocked over with me around. you people need to have more space around. in my statistics, there will be a 60% chance of it still being there because no-one would want to pay money for manga anymore when they can get, and a 40% chance of it not being there anymore because someone's little girl wanted to buy it because there literally aren't any comics out there targeted to such an audience. I am this close to going through the trouble of buying a used copy from amazon, just like i did with Lupin III, and Knights of the Zodiac.

Alright, now to review my Canada trip comics.

Usagi Yojimbo #4

It was pretty good again. dealing with some fortress capturementthat i forgot its name or something. To be honest though, i wasnt as hooked on it as i used to be. maybe because i wasnt on a plane and needed something like this to soothe me(it was a car trip), i dunno. also, when someone died, it was actually kinda sad to me. i wont say who, but i think youll feel empathy for the character, like me. maybe if #5 doesnt please me as much as the 1st 3, ill buy the next bone comic (2)

Sonic Hedgehog archives #2

Just like the first, it was awful puns and cheesy jokes that make archie look like the groo comics. But to be honest, i think it got a little better actually. just a little though, and i think it was just luck. there were actually 2 stories i didnt want to read too much because i already read those stories in the sonic the hedghog magazine comic ive picked up (in the late spring, was it?). honestly though, i think it even stole some very few chuckles from me. the story i didnt see coming was when they did a christmas carol parody (circa 199-something) that was a little entertaining. the big twist was however was that it was sonic's dream, not robotnic's. i bought it because it was small and perfect for a travel size for a trip, especially if i was flying.

Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories omnibus by Yen Press.

I was disappointed by this comic, to be honest. What got me to buy it was how much i liked the first kingdom hearts manga chapters, and now i wanted to save my appetite for this comic. But i have a few problems with this one. #1.) Theres barely any background detail. Most of the story takes place inside the oblivion castle. and they only visited 1 disney world: Aladdin. #2.) this is a more personal problem with me though, but im just sick of the moments in anime and manga with the anime expressions, where they are painfully flat and badly drawn and kinda stupid looking to me. ive just personally gotten sick of those. but thats just my opinion. also, i think some parts uses computer techniques, like the organization 13 guys disappearing with the small black squares, which personally felt unnatural to me. also, yen press went and editedout most of the background sound effects with english writing which looks like regular typed words but stretched and shaped weirdly. its also somewhat different story-wise from the actual video game. (i played the ps2 version), not that its that much of a problem to me. but something tells me that not much is going to stop me from buying the kh2 manga. this is one comic i dont wish to be like, though.

Now for the comics i bought at the Comics America.

groo.

this one i bought at the comic store. i picked this one because it looked funniest by the cover (of groo and his dog eating while everyone else behind him is hungry and starving. this one he is some police from the king for the poor people or something, and my favorite part would be him saying " i have a badge!". it was funny.

popeye classic comic.

this was something by IDW. but it wasnt the unpleasing new version, but a recollection of the classic comics. it was decent, by bud whatshisface.

To terra

i already talked about this comic in the last blog, but it dealt with some boy, all kids artificially born and raised by foster parents, and a group of psychics called Mu. The story was a little hard, but i liked the art however.

Dear comics america. i will give points for having the best variety in comics ive seen to date, but i will take off points for being so crammed and having such small spaces that i could barely walked through. also, i like you giving me the plastic bag and the free promotional mags, too.

But the comics dont end here in canada.

howard the duck comics

it started with my cousin telling me about a comics shop he knew in town. so i went with him, but i was a little disappointed. but what made up for it were the legendary Howard the duck comics. i thought about buying them at one point, but the essentials werent in print anymore, but now i found these! so i bought like 3 random issues. one of them is where hes been turned into a human, another where some random people are seeing a therapist, and now i even have the issue with the cover of him popping out of a newspaper (in this issue, he runs for president.) i thought these were actually entertaining, and i hope to see them again in some other comic collection or store.

lone wolf and cub Omnibus.

this one i bought i bought from a different bookstore in canada. but i was aware of it for a while.

i think my brother told me about it. i wanted to buy it at one point, but it was out of print. and then ive heard from amazon that dark horse is finally releasing the series in omnibuses! just so you people know when buying it, its manga sized, really thick, and contains the first 3 volumes of the series.

it was also surprisingly raunchy and sexual at a few points. i havent finished reading it yet, buts its pretty decent.

2 more things i should bring up is about some libraries ive been to and their graphic novel collection.

the first is from a library that ive heard from facebook about an old abandoned wal mart in mcallen texas being turned into a library! (thats one hell of a step turning crappy consumerism into literary thinking, or some shit like that)

and from what i recall, lets give them credit for having the ultimated muscle manga collection. (btw, where do libraries get their graphic novel collection from, anyways, just donated by regular folks who happen to have bought them at some point?) and the near complete collection of shaman king.

then theres the sekula library. ive heard from my friend from the cartoon club that they've got some new graphic novels. not much interesting there, though. there was also some manga art contest or something.

why is it that every time i see a black jack manga collection, they never simply have 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5?

i guess i cant blame people for liking it that much, to me it was the best comic ive read in a long time.

well, i guess it ends here.
Full Post
Animonohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09205122367223626862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1695018490524716352.post-42452523977222698542013-08-23T19:27:00.001-07:002013-08-23T19:27:55.950-07:00PegasusI AM GOING TO WRITE ABOUT PEGASUS TODAY. PEGASUS IS ANOTHER MYTHICAL HORSE I HAVE ALREADY WRITTEN ABOUT THE UNICORN, AND I THINK THAT THE PEGASUS IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND REGAL. SO LETS GET TO IT.... PEGASUS (ANCIENT GREEK:, P GASOS, LATIN PEGASUS) IS ONE OF THE BEST KNOWN MYTHOLOGICAL CREATURES IN GREEK MYTHOLOGY. HE IS A WINGED DIVINE STALLION USUALLY DEPICTED AS PURE WHITE IN COLOR. HE WAS SIRED BY POSEIDON, IN HIS ROLE AS HORSE-GOD, AND FOALED BY THE GORGON MEDUSA. HE WAS THE BROTHER OF CHRYSAOR, BORN AT A SINGLE BIRTHING WHEN HIS MOTHER WAS DECAPITATED BY PERSEUS. GRECO-ROMAN POETS WRITE ABOUT HIS ASCENT TO HEAVEN AFTER HIS BIRTH AND HIS OBEISANCE TO ZEUS,KING OF THE GODS, WHO INSTRUCTED HIM TO BRING LIGHTNING AND THUNDER FROM OLYMPUS. FRIEND OF THE MUSES,PEGASUS IS THE CREATOR OF HIPPOCRENE, THE FOUNTAIN ON MT. HELICON. HE WAS CAPTURED BY THE GREEK HERO BELLEROPHON NEAR THE FOUNTAIN PEIRENE WITH THE HELP OF ATHENA AND POSEIDON. PEGASUS ALLOWS THE HERO TO RIDE HIM TO DEFEAT THE MONSTER, THE CHIMERA, BEFORE REALIZING MANY OTHER EXPLOITS. HIS RIDER, HOWEVER, FALLS OFF HIS BACK TRYING TO REACH MOUNT OLYMPUS. ZEUS TRANSFORMED HIM INTO THE CONSTELLATION PEGASUS AND PLACED HIM UP IN THE SKY. HYPOTHESES HAVE BEEN PROPOSED REGARDING ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH THE MUSES THE GODS ATHENA, POSEIDON, ZEUS, APOLLO, AND THE HERO PERSEUS. THE SYMBOLISM OF PEGASUS VARIES WITH TIME. SYMBOL OF WISDOM AND ESPECIALLY OF FAME FROM THE MIDDLE AGES UNTIL THE RENAISSANCE, HE BECAME ONE SYMBOL OF THE POETRY AND THE CREATOR OF SOURCES IN WHICH THE POETS DRAW INSPIRATION, PARTICULARLY IN THE 19TH CENTURY. PEGASUS IS THE SUBJECT OF A VERY RICH ICONOGRAPHY, ESPECIALLY THROUGH THE ANCIENT GREEK POTTERY AND PAINTINGS AND SCULPTURES OF THE RENAISSANCE. PERSONIFICATION OF THE WATER, SOLAR MYTH, OR SHAMAN MOUNT, CARL JUNG AND HIS FOLLOWERS HAVE SEEN IN PEGASUS A PROFOUND SYMBOLIC ESOTERIC IN RELATION TO THE SPIRITUAL ENERGY THAT ALLOWS TO ACCESS TO THE REALM OF THE GODS ON MOUNT OLYMPUS. IN THE 20TH AND 21ST CENTURY, HE APPEARED IN MOVIES, IN FANTASY, N VIDEO GAMES AND IN ROLE PLAY, WHERE BY EXTENSION. THE TERM "PEGASUS" (PLURAL: "PEGASI") IS OFTEN USED TO REFER TO ANY WINGED HORSE. THE POET HESIOD PRESENTS A FOLK ETYMOLOGY IF THE NAME PEGASUS AS DERIVED FROM P G "SPRING WELL" "THE PEGAI OF OKEANOS, WHERE HE WAS BORN." A PROPOSED ETYMOLOGY OF THE NAME IS LUWIAN PIHASSAS, MEANING "LIGHTNING" AND PIHASSASSI, A LOCAL LUWIAN-HITTIE NAME IS SOUTHERN CILICIA OF A WEATHER GOD REPRESENTED WITH THUNDER AND LIGHTNING. THE PROPONENTS OF THIS ETYMOLOGY ADDUCE PEGASUS 'ROLE, REPORTED AS EARLY AS HESIOD, AS BRINGER OF THUNDERBOLTS TO ZEUS. IT WAS FIRST SUGGESTED IN 1952 AND REMAINS WIDELY ACCEPTED BUT ROBIN LANE FOX (200) HAS CRITICIZED IT AS IMPLAUSIBLE. ACCORDING TO LEGEND, EVERYWHERE THE WINGED HORSE STRUCK HIS HOOF TO THE EARTH, AN INSPIRING SPRING BRUST FORTH. ONE OF THESE SPRINGS WAS UPON THE MUSES' MOUNT HELICON, THE HIPPOCRENE ("HORSE SPRING") OPENED, ANTONINUS LIBERALIS SUGGESTED, AT THE BEHEST OF POSEIDON TO PREVENT THE MOUNTAIN SWELLING WITH RAPTURE AT THE SONG OF THE MUSES; ANOTHER WAS AT TROEZEN. HESIOD RELATES HOW PEGASUS WAS PEACEFULLY DRINKING FROM A SPRING WHEN THE HERO BELLEROPHON CAPTURED HIM. HESIOD ALSO SAYS PEGASUS CARRIED THUNDERBOLTS FOR ZEUS. THERE ARE SEVERAL VERSIONS OF THE BIRTH OF THE WINGED STALLION AND HIS BROTHER CHRYSAOR IN THE FAR DISTANT PLACE AT THE EDGE OF EARTH, HESIOD;S "SPRINGS OF OCEANUS, WHICH ENCIRCLES THE INHABITED EARTH WHERE PERSEUS FOUND MEDUSA: ONE IS THAT THEY SPRANG FROM THE BLOOD ISSUING FROM MEDUSA'S NECK AS PERSEUS WAS BEHEADING HER, SIMILAR TO THE MANNER IN WHICH ATHENA WAS BORN FROM THE HEAD OF ZEUS. IN ANOTHER VERSION, WHEN PERSEUS BEHEADED MEDUSA, THEY WERE BORN OF THE EARTH, FED BY THE GORGON'S BLOOD, PAIN AND SEA FOAM IMPLYING THAT POSEIDON HAD INVOLVEMENT IN THEIR MAKING. THE LAST VERSION BEARS RESEMBLANCE TO THE BIRTH OF APHRODITE, DAUGHTER OF ZEUS. THE WINGED HORSE THAT HAS PROVIDED AN INSTANT RECOGNIZABLE CORPORATES LOGO OR EMBLEM OF INSPIRATION. PEGASUS IN YU-GI-OH! IS AN EVIL MAN WHO WANTS TO STEAL THE EXODYSSIAN PECIES. I keep these no more than to have an example of modern comicing i dont like, painfully photoshopped colors, text-bended sound effects, glossy paper, that sorta stuff. what funny was that i once ended up with 2 of the star wars comic, so i kept one folded in my pocket in case i was bored.

now here are 2 different comics i got from my cousins in canada. on the left is ok, but the one on the right i legitimately hate. I think fred hembeck may be one of the dullest comic material ive ever read. his art is simplistic to the point of being painful, not too easy to understand, and not very funny at all. You thought Rob Liefeld was bad? Fred makes liefeld look like Da Vinchi, Fred is that dull.

The cat comic however on the left was something different. it seemed like one of those older underground adult comics. it was okay, unlike the Hembeck comic.

Fat Freddy's Cat

Fred Hembeck destroys the Marvel Universe.

Also got some teen titan comics from my cousin last year. They were surprisingly similar to the cartoon, including the hive academy, slade, and raven's even red dad with antlers. again, these comics were surprisingly fanservice-y, too.

and now, for 3 misc. humor comics. one of which i got for my birthday, the middle. one day, i like to get a Richie Rich comic so i can compare casper side by side and do that little bit like they did on the simpsons where richie killed himself and became casper, Lol:)

Now, onto the Archie collection

each summer, i buy like 2 archie comics at a time, from the south padre island Marlin Mart. And yet, its painfully dull, mediocre, and basically every TV cliche type character in the book. Oh why the hell do i keep buying these comics every summer?

oh... right..........

3 uncle scrooge comics i bought from a flea market. and i was a good thing i gave this comic guy a second look, too, before it would have been too late forever.

BTW, they're not Carl Barks, but Don Rosa-made comics. They were still pretty good, though. also a little more valuable to me than the other comics.

3 IDW popeye comics. the "Classics" was better amongst the 3, the middle was a cliched story line that was kinda boring, and the 3rd, being the first, was ok. would like to get the first "classics" book collection.

and to end the 1st stack of my comic collection, Watchmen. And to be honest, i did not like this comic, at all. it was too text-heavy for me, boring, and complicated. This actually happened to be my first non-manga graphic novel that my brother wanted to buy me. this was an unpleasant start for me in american comics. My advice would be, if you've spent about your whole highschool years in manga and happen to be interested in reading american comics, dont let watchmen be your first graphic novel, even despite the movie. this book was a downer for me, after years of interesting manga. I didnt even want this comic, but my brother bought it for me. There are others i wish i've read instead of reading watchmen. and now i leave it in the bottom of my comic stack.

And now, for the start of my manga collection!

These were the first mangas i bought during my last year of highschool. the 1st one being monster, which at the time i tried to get into because of the anime that was on the sci-fi channel, but the attempted forceful liking didnt last too long. Also I wanted a manga to study the structure of it when i was making "ito no tetsugakusha", a manga i had on deviant art for a short bit. the one piece manga i bought for a highschool trip to disney world, again, against my will. The bleach i bought so i could have something to read on the plane trip back to america from canada (i dont even like bleach that much, but it was obligated anime fandom and i didnt have trouble force-feeding myself this for almost 200 episodes) and bakuman, after seeing the first chapter in my first personally purchased issues of shonen jump, one of the last years before america took it out of print forever, now theres shonen jump alpha. i wanted to make manga-ish comics at that time, so this was kinda inspirational.

2 classic mangas bought in the same summer, Lupin III and Knights of the Zodiac! the star wars of mexico, lol. you know, there was a time period that i was going to buy manga from the internet, regardless of the free online version. most of that eventually came true. despite these 2 being out of print, i bought them used anyways from amazon. i wasnt planning too much on buying KotZ anymore, but then the thought started biting me, so then i had to buy it. LIII is actually not available online, like other online mangas, so heres a little something of what little you'll see online, of the swell MAD influenced art by monkey punch

very messy art, though.

KotZ wasnt that good, but it was to my half-mexican heritage that i seek it out.

Los Caballeros Del Zodiaco!

This is all i'll show for part 2 for now, but stay tuned for a part 3 tomorrow! (hopefully, lol).
Full Post
Animonohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09205122367223626862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1695018490524716352.post-56432875131077616992013-07-10T17:57:00.001-07:002013-07-10T17:57:36.820-07:00Sup. Since I happen to be alone at my old home this weekend, I decided I want to upload some more pictures from my sketch book. I picked out like the top 10 ones from the sketchbook. Most of them happen to copy an art style of some of my favorite artist.

Just so you guys know, I don't intend to upload any pictures of the Bigger sketch book used for class drawing sessions. because1.) most of them are just rough sketches from trying to copy life objects.2.) too big to scan in a scanner.3.) the best ones are left at the art building. There was a class assignment to bring our 10 best drawings to show to class, and then she wanted to keep them. she told us we could come back and bring them with us some other day, but i never felt like coming back, so...yeah.

these aren't all the drawings, the others happens to be rough sketches, or just felt incomplete.

The first of them scanned, happens to be a series of images from Bones Book 1. I actually drew this during the holidays on the cruise trip, like a day or 2 after i got the notebook for christmas. What I did here was drew a picture of Jiminy Cricket, One of my favorite films that I've watched since this year began. What I find a little amazing at the time i drew this was the idea of how complex the details and movements were for each character FRAME-BY-FRAME. You could just as well pick any scene from these sort of movies and you'd have something to practice drawing.

The next drawing i'm uploading is a rough picture of a girl dancing. Its a rather rough drawing though. this was actually copied from an image from a manga called "swan" a ballet manga. At some point I've learned about classic shoujo manga prior to the 90's and 2000's. I am not gonna lie, I have never seen manga or comics more beautifully drawn than these. One of these days, I think I should do a full on rant on how i've hate shoujo manga and how I though I would hate them all before I knew 60's, 70's, and 80's manga, and the painful mediocrityin modern shoujo (girl's) manga. next up...A picture of the celtic guardian from the yugioh manga. I actually really love the manga's art style, but i dont feel i quite got to where i wanted. And here are a couple of background drawings. from 2 completely sources. the top is from the little mermaidand the bottom happens to be from the dnangel anime. dnangel is pretty much technically shoujo anime i've started watching, mainly to study the style for konran tenshi. this is actually one of the best background drawings i have in my sketch book.drawings from images from the asterix comic. I personally want to learn to draw in this classic cartoon disney-esque style with such expressive ways like this and try to mix that with manga someday. including how the heads are at different angles.

images drawn from Masami Kuramada's Saint Seiya, knights of the zodiac, the star wars of mexico. i personally love the artist's ways of shading like this. most likely he probably did this with water colors, but less likely charcoal. this is only copied from volume 1. I dont intend to buy another volume again from amazon unless its somewhere like a used book store or a garage sale, or wherever i can get it pretty cheap. A scene from disney's cinderalla that only lasted a fraction of a second. I look for complex scenes in animated movies like these to practice drawing from, and then picking the right scene to draw from, even if it only lasts a fraction of a second. this also goes for other films, especially Pinocchio. The same thing goes for this snow white picture. this came from the mini celebrating scene in the end where snow white is revived by a kiss. i wanted to look for a scene in the film that gives me the challenge of drawing all 7 dwarves in 1 scene.this time, i've drawn a scene from the film sweeney todd, a live action film. i've only downloaded it this year because i wanted to practice drawing from scenes of the film. i've already scene it twice before this year, so im not going to count it on this year's list. i hope to be drawing a few scenes as well from the film titanic.

in conclusion, i've had a few more drawings in the same series such as these, but i didn't think they were good enough to be worth scanning, but these are some of the best ones, for now. the sketch book also included background drawings, but i didn't think there were as good as these up here.this is where the blog ends, until next time. see you then!

ps. just good chain of memories in the mail, for the PS2. i've been too comfortable with my vacation here, so i haven't been doing much for Beethoven bat.
Full Post
Animonohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09205122367223626862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1695018490524716352.post-29138299726715319312013-07-06T18:37:00.001-07:002013-07-06T18:37:54.899-07:00Combat Suit by H1-5 [Knights of the Old Republic Mods]Holty12345 comes back to us here at KotOR Files with a modification for the first Knights of the Old Republic game, which basically gives the player a custom skinned combat suit. As the author admits, the reskin of the combat suit is not the best; however the mod was mainly for the author to learn how to script items into the game. You can get the combat suit in game after a conversation with a Twilek dancer (see readme for more details); all in all the scripting is sound, so if you fancy a rath - Full PostAnimonohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09205122367223626862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1695018490524716352.post-82117499806440140582013-07-05T10:29:00.001-07:002013-07-05T10:29:32.826-07:00Saint Seiya: Brave Soldiers – Knights of the Zodiac<postmeta url='http://adf.ly/3856646/banner/http://www.spieletester.com/?bilder%3Dsaint-seiya-brave-soldiers-knights-of-the-zodiac'/> Saint Seiya: Brave Soldiers – Knights of the Zodiac ...Animonohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09205122367223626862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1695018490524716352.post-36930529883362091792013-07-05T03:27:00.001-07:002013-07-05T03:27:36.665-07:00ANIME NEWS: Shonen Jump fetes 45 years with Banpresto figures<postmeta url='http://adf.ly/3856646/banner/http://ajw.asahi.com/article/cool_japan/anime_news/AJ201307040061'/> Banpresto Co. is releasing sets of figures of the J Stars World Collectable Figure series this summer modeled after famous characters from Shonen Jump.
